It’s not judgy or lecturing, and there’s nothing too didactic here – and maybe not a lot to linger over either. But if you’re looking for a couple of hours of sexy Parisians hooking up, falling out and finding their feet again, all set to pulsing electro and with a baked-in romanticism that makes a built-up corner of Paris feel like Casablanca, Audiard and his co-writers have made the perfect film.

Zwei Paare in Paris. Der Neurowissenschaftler hat bei Versuchen ein paar Menschen zu Draculas gemacht. Sobald sie sexuell erregt werden, wollen sie ihren Partner „fressen“. Eine seiner Versuchspersonen ist Leos Frau, die immer wieder loszieht, um irgendwelche Männer zu morden und sich an ihrem Blut zu berauschen. Leo versucht sein Bestes, hinter Coré „aufzuräumen“. Zu Besuch in Paris sind Shane und seine junge Ehefrau June. Shane war ebenfalls eine Versuchsperson bei Leos Versuchen. Im Gegensatz zu Coré kann er seine blutigen Triebe mit Medikamenten unter Kontrolle bringen. Vor zwanzig Jahren brachte die französische Regisseurin Claire Denis die Darstellerin Béatrice Dalle und den amerikanischen Independent-Darsteller und -Regisseur Vincent Gallo zusammen in einem blutigen Thriller über die Tiefen und Untiefen der menschlichen Libido.

She gives an awkward and mannered performance as Diana, and this is entirely as it should be when one considers that Diana gave an awkward and mannered performance herself, garnishing her inbred posh hauteur with studied coquettish asides.

Im Anschluss zum Film fand ein Video-Livestream mit Regisseur Lee Isaac Chung statt.
Die meisten sind wohl hier nicht für irgendwelchen Arthousekrimskrams von den Kunstfestivals hier, sondern für die Oscarcontender. Beides lässt sich jedoch verbinden, und zwar in »Minari«. Lee Isaac Chungs Familiendrama rund um eine koreanisch stämmige Familie im Amerika der 80er besinnt sich ganz ruhig und behutsam auf die Wurzeln Amerikas zurück. Jacobs Familie, gespielt von Steven Yeun (»Burning«, »The Walking Dead«), versucht hier nämlich mit ehrlicher Landarbeit im neuen Land der Hoffnung dem amerikanischen Traum näher zu kommen. Ergo erwartet uns ein kleiner Film, indem es nicht um große Action geht, sondern um die wunderbaren kleinen Menschlichkeiten im Alltag. Von allen Seiten gerühmt, könnte das hier ziemlich sicher eines der großen Jahreshighlights werden. Youn Yuh-jung wurde nicht umsonst mit im Grunde allen wichtigen Filmpreisen ausgezeichnet, einschließlich BAFTA und Oscar.
