Nachdem „Slumdog Millionär“-Star Dev Patel seinen ersten Langfilm als Regisseur inszenierte, schlug Netflix zu, um sich die Rechte zu sichern. Damit schien klar: Der chaotisch-kraftvolle Actionfilm „Monkey Man“ wird im Angebot des Streamers zum Start sicherlich von vielen Menschen geschaut, versauert danach aber begraben zwischen Unmengen an Content auf der Plattform. Aber Pustekuchen! Jordan Peele sah nämlich eine frühe Schnittfassung – und war hin und weg. Für das „Get Out“-Mastermind, das neben Christopher Nolan zu den großen Verfechtern des Kino-Erlebnisses gehört, war deshalb klar: Dieses Werk muss auf die große Leinwand!
