Eine Kernwaffe (Atomwaffe, Nuklearwaffe, Atombombe, Atomsprengkopf) ist eine Waffe, deren Wirkung auf kernphysikalischen Reaktionen – Kernspaltung und/oder Kernfusion – beruht. Konventionelle Waffen beziehen dagegen ihre Explosionsenergie aus chemischen Reaktionen, bei denen die Atomkerne unverändert bleiben. Die Entwicklung der Kernwaffentechnik begann mit dem Zweiten Weltkrieg. Zusammen mit biologischen und chemischen Waffen gehören Kernwaffen zu den Massenvernichtungswaffen. Bei der Explosion einer Kernwaffe wird sehr viel Energie in Form von Hitze, Druckwelle und ionisierender Strahlung frei. Dadurch kann eine Kernwaffe innerhalb kürzester Zeit eine ganze Stadt zerstören und hunderttausende Menschen töten. Die Strahlung verursacht akute Strahlenkrankheit und gesundheitliche Langzeitschäden. Durch den radioaktiven Niederschlag (Fallout) werden größere Gebiete verseucht. Durch die Kernspaltung eröffnete sich gegen Ende des Zweiten Weltkriegs die Möglichkeit, die Sprengkraft von tausenden Tonnen TNT in militärisch einsetzbaren Sprengkörpern zu realisieren. Die Weiterentwicklung zur technisch anspruchsvolleren Fusionsbombe versprach im Rahmen des Wettrüstens zu Beginn des Kalten Kriegs Bomben mit mehreren Millionen Tonnen TNT-Äquivalent. Die Atombombe wurde zuerst von den USA im Manhattan-Projekt entwickelt. Am 16. Juli 1945 fand der erste Kernwaffentest mit einer Kernwaffenexplosion unter dem Projektnamen Trinity (engl. ‚Dreifaltigkeit‘) statt. Am 6. und 9. August 1945 folgten die Atombombenabwürfe auf Hiroshima und Nagasaki, die hunderttausende Opfer forderten.

Neben Margot Robbie als titelgebende Puppe, Will Ferrell, Simu Liu, Helen Mirren, Dua Lipa, John Cena und Michael Cera vor allem Ryan ‘Ry Ry’ Gosling als Ken, der auch auf dem Soundtrack vertreten ist. Mit ihm zu hören sind dort unter anderem auch HAIM, Chali XCX und Nicki Minaj. Und natürlich Aqua.

If all of Anderson’s movies are sustained by the tension between order and chaos, uncertainty and doubt, “Asteroid City” is the first that takes that tension as its subject, often expressing it through the friction created by rubbing together its various levels of non-reality. Some might see that as self-amused navel-gazing, but the unexpected moment towards the end when Anderson finds a certain equilibrium between those contradictory forces — with a major assist from a movie star whose name you suddenly remember seeing in the credits some 100 minutes earlier — is so crushingly beautiful and well-earned that the artifice surrounding it simply falls away.

It’s a quiet drama despite its characters’ many volatile arguments. Most of all, it’s a moving character portrait of a complicated woman who makes good and bad decisions but is motivated solely by the desire to create a better life for herself and the people she loves.

With very little dialogue, the director […] tells the very simple story of a brutal killing machine taking down some Nazis in the hazy days following the end of World War II. A version of the title basically means “Immortal,” and the protagonist here is that kind of Mad Max maniac, a former soldier tired of all the bullshit and just wants to go home. “Sisu” gets a bit repetitive and arguably lacks much to offer beyond its gore, but it works on its own B-movie terms. Who doesn’t want to watch Nazis go boom?

While, on one level, it seems to belong to international cinema’s increasingly prevalent strain of climate catastrophe dramas, on another it’s a brittle character piece, a comedy of social embarrassment with a dark and ultimately tragic undertow. Until, that is, a coda ties it off in another register entirely.
